Space-Saving Trundle Bunk Beds

My family lives in a starter home, which is just a euphemistic way of saying we have a tiny house! Things can get a bit crowded trying to fit two adults and three children into two small bedrooms, but we're doing everything we can to manage the situation while we save money for a bigger place. For instance, we are big believers in organization, so we've got shelving units in all the closets, plus additional container systems for toys and other loose items. Then in the boys' room, we've got one of those trundle bunk beds so all three kids can have their own bed.

I'm glad I discovered the beauty of trundle bunk beds a few years ago. At first, we were thinking about putting a couple of traditional bunks in that room, but there simply wasn't enough space. I certainly didn't want one of the boys to have to sleep on the floor or sofa, so I started looking through home improvement catalogs for inspiration. I saw how trundle bunk beds were designed to optimize even the smallest spaces, so I figured it was worth checking out. I did some quick measurements, went out to the store, and found the perfect bed for that room.

For those of you that don't know, trundle bunk beds come with three sleeping areas instead of just two. You've got the usual bunks, of course, but underneath the bottom bed is another slightly smaller bed that's on rollers. This part pulls out when it's time to turn in for the night, and then can be neatly stored away during the daytime when it's not in use. By using one of these trundle bunk beds, each of my sons gets his very own bed to sleep in while leaving enough space in the bedroom for a dresser and desk that everyone has to share.

Trundle bunk beds might not be the most comfortable solution around, but they are affordable and practical. Once we move into a larger house with more bedrooms, we can think of getting each boy his own regular sized bed. But until then, we have to make a few sacrifices in the name of fairness. As I said, it just wouldn't be right if one of the kids had to sleep on the ground or couch, so this is definitely a better solution.

If you're looking for an affordable way to expand your children's sleeping quarters in order to accommodate more bodies, then I suggest checking out trundle bunk beds. This is a practical, stylish solution to the problem of limited space, and is one that has served my family very well. Start checking out some different designs online or at a local retailer today!
